As the development hockey system began to emerge in the late 1930’s, so too did the opportunity for hockey fans in smaller markets to see the future stars of the game turn into professionals before their very eyes. And, despite the myriad of relocations and re-affiliations both the Canadiens and Maple Leafs underwent over the decades in the American Hockey League, it could always be counted upon that their farm teams, wherever they were in the United States or Canada, would make for some great hockey, as these games provided a smaller-scale preview of the future tilts between the Canadiens and Maple Leafs in the NHL.
