The Montréal Canadiens defeated the Toronto St. Patricks by 6 to 3 in a scheduled contest of the National Hockey League here tonight. In the most disappointing game of the professional season, the clever Canadiens of Montréal toyed with the St. Patricks here last night, defeated them by 2 to 0, and won the round and the right to play in the finals, if there are any, by 5 to 2.

“They tattooed and frapped us from the drop of the hat, but we won the game, and that makes up for all the abuse we got,” said Paul Ciceri, vice president of the St. Pats hockey team, when he got home this morning from Montréal, where the Irish brigade took another game from the Canadiens.

The St. Pats came back from Montréal this morning covered with glory and bruises, and sore bodily and in spirit. They won from the Canadiens, 4 to 2, but while they were carving out a victory at the expense of the erstwhile leaders, the Montréal clan carved and cut ’em badly with their weapons, and there is not a member of the Irish outfit who does not carry some tangible reminder of the fray.

Indications that the Canadiens are going to make a strong bid to retain the Stanley Cup were manifest Saturday night when they overwhelmed Toronto 7 to 1. The game served as the curtain raiser for the formal opening of the Forum, Montréal’s new $1,000,000 artificial ice rink.

The Canadiens overwhelmed the St. Patricks of Toronto here tonight by 6 to 1, and went into second place in the NHL race. Brilliant play by the local forwards was too much for the visiting players, who were hopelessly outclassed. The St. Pats’ best stand was in the second period.

The Canadiens have climbed from the bottom position, and with seven scheduled games remaining, are bunched on even terms with Toronto and Hamilton for second place. Seldom has a more weird, and yet dogged, struggle been witnessed on a local National Hockey League fixture than was seen in the game here at the Mount Royal Arena on Saturday night, when the St. Patricks blanked the Canadiens 2 to 0. The victory gave the Toronto team a firm hold on second place, and ended temporarily the Canadiens’ chances of drawing even.

The St. Patricks broke their losing streak, which had reached four games, at the Arena on Saturday evening, when they defeated the Canadiens of Montréal by 5 to 3. The Canadiens made an important advance in the National Hockey League race when they defeated Toronto Saturday evening by 5 to 3. The victory, for the time being at least, reduces the threat of the St. Pats to take second place in the standing, the local club having a margin of three points over the Irishmen and being one point behind Ottawa, who defeated Hamilton Saturday night.
